I honestly think 'Islamophobia' is linked more to the fact that people are being murdered at the hands of supposed 'followers of Islam' than that the offensive DVD was created. The truth is, very few people in America, even knew about the movie until the Americans were murdered. If people don't die, this movie would also die in obscurity, and it give's Islam a chance for people to believe in the Good that is Islam and know that Mohammed was a prophet of peace and love. When people persecute us because of our faith, it brings us joy in the goodness of our God, and it is our job to be men of truth. What is the world supposed to think when people are dying?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067441892853819723.post-35518920555899997512012-09-21T18:56:35.935-04:002012-09-21T18:56:35.935-04:00olooloAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067441892853819723.post-19957132366464863652012-09-16T14:43:57.458-04:002012-09-16T14:43:57.458-04:00Love your articles. keep on bloggin man.

I'm planning a lesson for my year 11 Ancient History class, we are looking at Jared Diamond's theory of societal breakdown and how it applies to Bronze Age Mediterranean societies. Two of the five factors are environmental damage through misuse, and climate change. So I was researching desertification and stumbled upon this blog. Very interesting read thank you!

I'm 21 and studying to become a high school teacher, but my ultimate dream in life is to own a farm. I'm really into permaculture, this is the future of agriculture I think. We simply don't have any arable land left to till. People seem to forget that we rely on natural cycles created by the wilderness; forests, rivers, flood plains, wetlands, deserts and all the animals and plants in between. We rely on these environments to create the micro climates, build soil culture, create rain, and house beneficial plants, animals and insects. The key is to reinvigorate agriculture with sustainable practises; in the Middle East this would no doubt mean high water retention and intelligent use of it. As an educated man you've probably already read of, or heard about the work of Geoff Lawton of the Australian Institute of Permaculture in Jordan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sohI6vnWZmk

This is why I love permaculture; it's in consonance with these cycles and uses intelligent design to produce a high yield with no negative environmental impacts, quite the opposite really, as when you incorporate the native ecosystems in producing food the outcome is mutually beneficial.

My grandmother owns a small perma/organic farm near Junee in New South Wales, Australia. She is a great inspiration to me. she works with the limited rainfall of the semi-arid Australian country side. In the last 6 months my grandmother and mum have planted 530 trees on the property, most native, though I think there are some exotics like oaks and beech. These trees are pioneers, they form windbreaks, hold soils together, create shade for more complex and delicate fruiting trees, they form habits for insects and native birds and put a big smile on my face haha.

I'll stop rambling now, I just get very worked up when I think about permaculture and farming. Living in Sydney has made me appreciate my country upbringing with nature, just like that Joni Mitchell song 'you don’t know what you got till it's got. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot'.

Peace!Simon Littlenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067441892853819723.post-17004948706026448042012-05-25T15:12:14.636-04:002012-05-25T15:12:14.636-04:00Egypt must ensure that literacy in females is impr...Egypt must ensure that literacy in females is improved upon,so that they can take better decisions on productive healthAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067441892853819723.post-26831147996427836802012-03-14T10:47:58.011-04:002012-03-14T10:47:58.011-04:00Excellent article, only I wish it was accompanied ...Excellent article, only I wish it was accompanied by a photo of the caricature discussed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067441892853819723.post-29097900121957147972012-02-13T05:59:42.899-05:002012-02-13T05:59:42.899-05:00Hi I'd like to reference this article for an e...Hi I'd like to reference this article for an essay and would like to know who the author is ?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067441892853819723.post-52972771030943565582011-12-19T23:58:36.497-05:002011-12-19T23:58:36.497-05:00Comments need approval? But I must admit Mr. Fakhouri, when viewing your article objectively, your article did seem rather biased towards Egypt, and thus I must agree with Anonymous. Many of these up-stream states have undeveloped economies while a vast majority of their peoples have no electricity. While it is true countries such as Ethiopia can depend on other resources, such as rainfall, for sustance of their crops (which much of their economy is based on) history has dictated that these sources are capricious in nature as seen through the famines many of these states are gripped by frequently. Building these dams may help these countries develope a much more stable economy and will most likely bring much need electricity to a greater proportion of their populations. I do understand that much of Egypt's water supply is derived from the Nile, but just because through chance it was able to be situated downstream does not mean that it is to be the sole recepient of the Nile's vast wealth. My suggestion is that every Nile River Basin countries, Sudan, Ethiopia and(especially) Egypt should meet and draft better treaties, better in the sense that all countries may benefit from the resource and create austerity laws that regulate the amount of water that each Nile River Basin country is allowed to divert so that Egypt and Sudan are not necessarily the victims of the up-stream countries. I do think that it is possible for all countries to benefit.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067441892853819723.post-77433632459767586032011-05-18T05:16:43.102-04:002011-05-18T05:16:43.102-04:00Nice article, thanks for the information.Nice article, thanks for the information.sewa mobilhttp://griyamobilkita.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067441892853819723.post-7577917228954273292011-04-19T20:59:16.313-04:002011-04-19T20:59:16.313-04:00Thank Anonymous for your comment regarding the Eth...Thank Anonymous for your comment regarding the Ethiopian Dam Construction. However, I would like to suggest that you read the 1929 and 1959 treaty that Ethiopia, Egypt, Sudan and the six Nile River Basin countries have signed. It states, among other things, that any construction affecting the flow of water of the White and Blue Nile should be done only with the agreement of all members. Ethiopia did not discuss its plan either with Egypt of the Sudan. I would like to stress the fact that 85% of Egypt's water comes from the Blue Nile.Hani Fakhourihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14736658167068511411noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8067441892853819723.post-3022888463350734772011-04-18T21:36:13.930-04:002011-04-18T21:36:13.930-04:00The way It should beThe way It should beAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
