The Second Spring Revolution


During the early part of 2019,  several mass protest movements started in Sudan and Algeria. The protest ended successfully in Sudan. It led to the removal of the corrupt regime of Omar al Bashir. Presently, he is being tried for corruption.
At the same time the second protest began in Algeria. The demand was the removal of  the corrupt President Bou Teflika who was running for a fifth time. He consequently resigned, his cabinet resigned as well as several high officials including the president’s brother. They are being investigated for corruption.
The protesters are still demanding the resignation of all officials in the regime.
Ben Saleh, the head of the Parliament, is assuming temporarily the position of acting President. According to the Constitution, he called for an election of a new President to be held on December 12, 2019
Five candidates were selected to run for the position of the president.
The public, however, refused the government’s plan for election. Hence, the mass protest is still going on. The protestors are demanding the removal of all government officials  who are associated with the regime. Moreover, they demanded the appointment of a new committee to control and observe the election of a new president.
 As of 11/8/2019 no response has been issued by the acting president. In the meantime the public is still protesting,
